WRO is one of the world's largest robotics competitions, bringing together students from over 85 countries. Explorer Robotics competes nationally and internationally every year across three categories.
WRO competition team spots are separate from class registration. The season begins in January — we will reach out to enrolled students when competition spots become available. The best way to prepare is to join one of our classes first.
In Future Engineers, teams design and program a fully autonomous self-driving car to complete a series of driving challenges on a standardized track. The car must navigate on its own — no remote control allowed. Teams are judged on how well their vehicle completes the challenge tasks including avoiding obstacles, following lanes, and parking.

In RoboMission, teams build and program a LEGO-based robot to complete as many missions as possible on a themed game field within a time limit. Each year brings a new theme and new missions. Teams must design a robot that can reliably complete multiple tasks autonomously, requiring both strong engineering and programming skills.
Recommended classes: Robot Building Gr. 6-7, Python & Robot Programming
In Future Innovators, teams research a real-world problem and develop an innovative solution using robotics or technology. Teams present their idea, a working prototype or model, and their research findings to a panel of judges. This category emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, communication, and the engineering design process.
Recommended classes: AI & Engineering Gr. 7-8, AI & Engineering Gr. 9-10, 3D Printing & Design
